Club Statement: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Advice and Mitigation Strategies

By now, all of you are aware of the evolving situation in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). As the situation changes and we learn more, we encourage you to remain alert rather than be alarmed. We ask that you continue to adhere to health authorities and government guidelines that’s designed to prevent the spread of the virus.

On 13 March, Tennis Australia released a statement suspending all events, competitions and tournaments run by Tennis Australia and its member associations (e.g. Tennis West). For our club, it means that Summer Saturday and Sunday Tennis West competitions won’t be on until further notice.

While we’re monitoring the situation and evaluating activities on a case by case basis, both the club and coaching team will continue its programs, social play and general club access (like court hire) as per normal. Should there be any changes, we will advise you accordingly.

As a precautionary measure, we will be postponing our Bellcourt MTC Quiz Night event that was due to be held on Friday, 27 March. We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment but we will let you know once we have a new date.

This is an unprecedented situation and to support with the prevention of the spread of the virus, we ask you follow these guidelines:

  • If you present with any cold, flu or fever symptoms please do NOT attend the tennis club or any club events and seek medical advice.

  • If you’ve are feeling unwell, had contact with infected individuals or travelled to any high risk countries, please stay home and avoid attending the club

  • If you think you may have symptoms of the coronavirus, avoid the club and seek medical attention. If you cannot see your GP, call the nationwide 24-hour Coronavirus hotline 1300 675 398.

  • Practice good hygiene like washing your hands regularly (there is plenty of soap in the club bathrooms)

  • Avoid shaking hands, giving high-fives and unnecessary close contact – we recommend giving racquet high-fives on-court instead

Below are some posters that Tennis Australia has provided to us which serves a good reminder of good hygiene practices to follow.

We ask that you remain considerate of others and avoid risking the safety of others who may be more vulnerable to this virus.
