Grants provide Wheelchair Tennis program a significant boost

In June, Manning Tennis Club and our WA Top Spinners wheelchair tennis program were given a significant boost when it was announced as a 2021 recipient of ANZ’s $10,000 Hot Shots Community Grant.

The $10,000 cheque was presented by ANZ representatives to the club at an official ceremony which was then presented to players and our community during the WA Top Spinners’ inaugural wheelchair tennis event on Saturday 22 June 2021.

The funding will play an instrumental role in furthering the growth of the program with the money being used to purchase additional equipment and pay for the maintenance of the wheelchairs – all contributing to enabling us to continue to offer more opportunities for people to participate in wheelchair tennis at minimal or no cost to them.

There was more good news as our four new sports wheelchair, courtesy of the Australia Paralympics’ para-sport equipment fund, also arrived.

Sports wheelchairs are one of the biggest barriers to the game with each costing anywhere from $4,500 to more than $15,000. With the growing number of participants, the new chairs which also vary in sizes, will enable us to cater for even more players.

These two grants, combined with the $5,000 grant we’ve previously received from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) to support with the program delivery, will go a long way to boosting wheelchair tennis opportunities at Manning Tennis Club and hopefully beyond.

About the WA Top Spinners Wheelchair Tennis Program

The State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries is a major supporter of community sport and recreation facilities in Western Australia. Sport and recreation builds stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities. When we play sport our whole community wins.

We are also grateful for the kind and generous support from Paralympics Australia through their para-sport equipment fund, ANZ, Lucky Nickel Media, Wild West Wheelchairs, Wilson Tennis, Worldwide Printing QV1, Tennis Only and Rebound WA,
